Patients learn how their thoughts can cause them to feel anxious, depressed or angry. Habitual reactions to situations are explored and people learn to replace maladaptive behaviors with more effective ones. Because thoughts, feelings and behaviors are connected, therapy focuses on interventions at different points in that cycle.
Mindfulness Practices for Stress Reduction:
Mindfulness can be defined as being fully aware of what is happening in the present moment. It helps people to recognize their habitual thinking patterns and behaviors. Mindfulness practices have been found to be effective for reducing stress, enhancing self-awareness, and effectively managing difficult thoughts and feelings. Currently, there is a good deal of research supporting the connection between mindfulness and healthy changes in the brain.
